In recent weeks, significant doubts have grown over the continuity of Marcus Rashford at FC Barcelona.

At one time, it seemed certain that the Blaugrana would activate the €30 million buy option to sign the on-loan forward permanently from Manchester United in the summer.

But, of late, doubts have grown over such a deal, partly due to the finances involved as well as the forward’s waning importance in the team in the second half of the season.

Barcelona want another loan for Rashford

Providing an update on the situation, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that Barcelona are now pushing for a second loan deal for Rashford for next season.

Talks are already underway with Manchester United as the Blaugrana do not intend to activate the €30 million buy option previously agreed with the Red Devils for the England international.

Instead, the La Liga champions would ideally prefer a second loan deal for Rashford or a permanent transfer at a lower fee than the €30 million figure.

Either way, the Catalans’ intention seems to be to retain Rashford for the next season after manager Hansi Flick has given his seal of approval for the operation.

This does mark a shift in stance, considering that reports in Spain had suggested that Barça were leaning towards not keeping Rashford for another year.

His recent absence from the starting lineups, despite the injury to Raphinha, was seen as a clear message from Flick about his future at the club.

However, Plettenberg’s report suggests that the Barcelona manager has approved the retention of Rashford’s services for another season. As such, the club are now in talks with Manchester United to secure another loan deal.
