According to SPORT, FC Barcelona have officially been notified of the complaint filed by Atletico Madrid over the club’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has opened disciplinary proceedings into the matter and given the Catalan club a deadline to submit their response.

The complaint centres on allegations that the Blaugrana held discussions with the Argentine striker while he remains under contract at Atlético until 2030.

Barcelona preparing their defence

The notification from the RFEF informs Barcelona that a formal case has been opened and grants the club several days to present its arguments.

Barcelona’s legal team is already reviewing Atletico’s complaint and intends to submit a full response defending the club’s actions.

Inside the club, there is confidence that the case is unlikely to lead to significant consequences.

Barça believe they did nothing wrong

Senior figures at Barcelona believe Atletico’s complaint lacks substance.

The club’s position is that Álvarez himself publicly expressed his desire to leave the Spanish capital club and fulfil what he described as his dream of playing for Barcelona.

Shortly after those comments, the Blaugrana formally submitted an offer worth around €100 million for the striker.

From the club’s perspective, those events demonstrate that their approach was conducted openly rather than through improper negotiations.

Sporting director Deco continues to view Alvarez as the club’s preferred option to strengthen Hansi Flick’s attack, with the Argentine remaining the primary target to lead the forward line.

However, Atletico Madrid have repeatedly insisted they have no intention of negotiating the player’s sale to Barcelona.

Barcelona’s current offer is expected to expire soon, meaning the coming days could prove decisive.

Meanwhile, Alvarez is due to report back for Atletico Madrid’s pre-season training on 10 August unless developments in the transfer market alter the situation before then.

While negotiations remain at a standstill, the dispute has now moved beyond the transfer market and into the hands of Spanish football’s governing authorities, adding another chapter to one of the summer’s most closely followed transfer sagas.
