Barcelona receive positive Eric Garcia news after Valencia injury scare | OneFootball

Barcelona had an excellent afternoon at the Mestalla on Sunday, as they comprehensively defeated Valencia 5-0 – with goals from Lamine Yamal (x2), Fermin Lopez, Raphinha and Pedri. However, it was not a perfect match for Hansi Flick’s side, as defender Eric Garcia had to be forced off in the opening half hour.

Eric had to be replaced by Jules Kounde after colliding with Barcelona teammate Rodri. The 25-year-old’s nose was affected, and ultimately, the decision was taken for him not to continue, with the Catalans already 2-0 up at that stage.

Fortunately, the decision taken by Flick and his medical staff appears to have precautionary. As per RAC1’s Alex Pintanel, Eric is fine, and the expectation is that he will be able to play against Levante next weekend.

Eric will sit out Champions League opener

However, Eric will not be available for Barcelona’s opening league phase match of the 2026-27 Champions League against Feyenoord on Wednesday, although that is nothing to do with his physical situation. The defender picked up a red card during the second leg of last season’s quarter-final defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid, and thus, he is suspended for the contest at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Eric’s absence against Feyenoord will present an opportunity for Kounde to start at right-back, but given his underwhelming performances over the last 12 months, Flick may decide to go in a different direction. Joao Cancelo could make his first start since returning on a permanent deal in the summer, and either he or Xavi Espart are able to line up on the right or left, which also means they could alternate throughout the match if necessary.
