Barcelona have reignited their pursuit of former La Masia talent Alejandro Grimaldo, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo.
The club is once again keeping tabs on the Bayer Leverkusen left-back as they look to strengthen their squad this summer, with Deco targeting depth in key areas ahead of the new season.
Grimaldo, who played for Barça’s youth and B teams before moving abroad, has emerged as a strong candidate to offer competition and cover for Alejandro Balde.
Real Madrid are also monitoring the 29-year-old, especially if their pursuit of Alvaro Carreras doesn’t materialise.
However, it is Barça who are pushing hardest due to their familiarity with the player and his natural fit within the team’s style.
While Balde remains a top performer and Gerard Martin has shown promise, there are concerns at Barcelona about the lack of experience in big games.

Martin had to start in a Champions League semi-final, a situation the club wants to avoid repeating.
Deco sees Grimaldo as the perfect solution, someone who knows the Barça system, has top-level experience, and can step in when needed.
Grimaldo has had an excellent spell at both Benfica and Bayer Leverkusen and is open to returning to La Liga. Barça have been tracking him since his Benfica days and are aware that he is keen on a move.
The good news for Barcelona is that while Grimaldo’s market value is estimated at €40 million, his release clause is significantly lower, likely in the range of €15–18 million.
This makes him an affordable option, especially given Barça’s tight financial situation.
With Deco hinting at “two, three, or four signings” this summer, and left-back being a key area of focus, Grimaldo’s name is firmly back on the table.
The player is waiting patiently, and if the club can free up the funds, a return to Camp Nou could become a reality.
