The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have on Wednesday issued a response to the media speculation linking the club with a move for Sporting CP starlet Dário Essugo.
The name of youngster Essugo has positioned itself front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital across the week to date.
This comes after word was forthcoming in the Spanish press that the midfielder had made his way firmly onto the radar of the aforementioned Barcelona.
Essugo is for his part currently plying his trade on loan with Las Palmas, with the 19-year-old’s performances to date having garnered widespread praise.
In turn, it was claimed that Barcelona, after seeing an approach for his services rebuffed during the summer, had returned to the table for Essugo.
If ensuing word to have surfaced on Wednesday is anything to go by, however, then no such approach, in fact, was made.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:
‘Sources from the club and the player’s entourage consulted by MD have denied the existence of an offer or any type of interest last summer or now.’
