An update on the future of departing Real Betis star Guido Rodríguez has on Friday come to the fore.

The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, and points towards the Argentine’s plans for next season all of a sudden looking altogether unclear.

Recent weeks had of course seen reports mount that Guido was all set to link up with Barcelona.

Ahead of the expiration of the midfielder’s contract with the aforementioned Betis next month, Guido and his entourage engaged in lengthy discussions with the Barca brass, over the terms of a pre-contract beginning in the summer.

A verbal agreement was ultimately found between the parties, with the transfer, as a result, having been considered as good as done.

This, however, no longer appears to be the case.

As per the aforementioned MD, the accord between the World Cup winner and Blaugrana is set to expire on Saturday.

With the latter yet to move forward with making the contracts formal, rival suitors have in turn been allowed back into the fray.

And one such club, it is understood, comes in the form of Atlético Madrid.

Diego Simeone and co. have long considered the addition of a deep-lying midfielder an absolutely priority with a view to next season.

Long-term admirers of Guido, the brass at the Wanda Metropolitano are therefore ready to pounce, with a proposal of their own.
