Barcelona ‘rule out’ return of key loanee | OneFootball

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have come to an all but final decision on the potential return of a member of the club’s loan contingent from last season.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who highlight João Cancelo as the player in question.

Full-back Cancelo of course spent this past season on loan in Catalunya’s capital, from Manchester City.

The Portuguese international, all told, enjoyed a productive stint in Barca colours, playing an important role under the watch of former Blaugrana boss Xavi.

All told, he managed 42 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with four goals and five assists along the way.

Whilst earlier in the summer it was in turn considered something of a formality that Barcelona would find a way to bring Cancelo back, to date, Deco and co. have failed to meet the demands of their counterparts in Manchester.

And as much, coupled with the emergence of a number of impressive young full-back options, appear set to prove decisive when it comes to Barca’s plans…

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘A possibility that was open at the beginning of the summer has been put to rest. It seems that Cancelo, who can play on both wings, has been ruled out.’
