FC Barcelona could face an important defensive decision this summer, with Jules Kounde one of the players the club would consider selling if the right offer arrives.
The French defender is having a strong World Cup and remains highly valued inside the squad, but Barca’s financial reality means some difficult conversations may be necessary.
According to SPORT, citing Caught Offside, Barcelona would be willing to listen to offers of around €65 million for Kounde.
Chelsea and Liverpool are mentioned as interested clubs, although the key factor remains the player’s position. Kounde is happy at Barcelona and recently renewed his contract until 2030.
Barcelona signed Kounde from Sevilla for €55 million, and a sale at the reported figure would generate a meaningful profit for the club.
That matters because Barca need room to move in the market, especially if they want to sign a top-level centre-forward.
The sporting question is more complicated. Kounde was signed as a centre-back but has become a reliable right-back for both Barcelona and France.
Losing him would weaken Flick’s defensive structure, unless the club already have a clear replacement plan.
Barca are also working on Joao Cancelo, who could cover both full-back roles, but Kounde’s defensive level is not easy to replace.
From a fan perspective, this is the kind of sale that should only happen if it truly changes the market for Barcelona.
If €65 million helps bring in the striker the squad needs, the club may have to consider it. But selling an established, reliable defender simply to balance numbers would be risky.
For now, Kounde has not pushed to leave. That gives Barcelona control, and they should use it carefully.
