Barcelona’s search for a left-footed centre-back has led them to an exciting young prospect in France, namely, Tylel Tati, a 17-year-old defensive prodigy making waves at Nantes.

According to SPORT, the Blaugrana are keeping a close eye on the teenager, who has already become one of Ligue 1’s most talked-about young defenders.

Tati, who will turn 18 in January, has quickly earned a reputation as one of the most physically dominant young players in Europe.

Standing tall and strong, he combines his imposing frame with surprising speed and excellent technical ability on the ball.

The outlet assures that scouts from several top clubs, including those in the Premier League, have been closely monitoring his performances this season.

What makes him special?

What makes Tati, who recently signed an extension with Nantes until 2028, stand out even more is his composure under pressure and his ability to build play from the back.

His aerial dominance and left-footed balance have made him an asset in both defence and attacking set-pieces.

Nantes are aware of his rising stock and know they have a real gem on their hands.

His current valuation sits at around €3 million, but it is largely expected to rise sharply in the coming months as more clubs register interest.

Barcelona’s defensive planning

The departure of Inigo Martinez has left a visible gap in Barcelona’s backline.

Hansi Flick’s system relies heavily on having defenders comfortable in possession, and Tati’s profile fits the mould of what Barça are looking for.

Reports suggest that the club’s scouting department has already watched him several times and come away impressed with his maturity and reading of the game.

For now, the youngster’s priority is to complete the season with Nantes to gain more experience in top-flight football.

However, a summer move seems likely, and Barcelona are expected to stay in the race.

While Nico Schlotterbeck remains another name under consideration, the Blaugrana have not ruled out making a bold move for Tati as he can become one of Europe’s standout defenders.
