As Barcelona look ahead to 2026, the club have been dealt a fresh injury blow, with Andreas Christensen picking up a serious-looking ACL knock.

The Danish international has been ruled out for at least three to four months, with the club set to follow a conservative treatment policy.

Christensen leaves Barcelona extremely thin when it comes to defensive options, which, coupled with Inigo Martinez’s summer exit, has put pressure on the Barcelona board.

Barcelona to consider a January signing

Now, in a significant development, Diario SPORT reports that Barcelona will consider a new signing in the upcoming January transfer window.

This is a direct response to Christensen’s injury, in addition to the fact that Ronald Araujo has been out due to mental health problems, although the Uruguayan international is expected to return at the start of next year.

Barcelona’s primary goal, therefore, is to reinforce the backline. The report further states that the club won’t go after their summer targets as they won’t be available now.

Keeping that in mind, Barcelona are only expected to sign a temporary solution in defence, most likely in the form of a loan deal.

From a Financial Fair Play perspective, Barcelona will be able to sign a replacement for Christensen, provided the Dane is out for longer than four months.

This is thanks to La Liga’s regulations that allow a club to utilise up to 80% of an injured player’s salary margin, provided he is out with a long-term injury.

That could be the case for Christensen, especially with Barcelona opting for a conservative approach. Registering the new signing, therefore, should not be a problem for the club.
