Despite initially entering the summer transfer window with barely any buying power, FC Barcelona have since made some bold moves. Despite not signing any major players thus far, Barça remains incredibly ambitious. Unfortunately, however, ambition is not all that Barcelona would have hoped for.

As a result of said ambition, however, Barça did bother to follow and entice Athletic Club star Nico Williams. The 22-year-old Spanish star was jaw-dropping during the European Championship and his performances understandably attracted a lot of external attention and gathered many foreign and domestic suitors.

Among those suitors was FC Barcelona, a club that was labeled as a heavy favorite to sign the young winger. Moreover, to further prove that point, the Catalan giants even put other operations on hold to give priority to Nico Williams and sort out his arrival first.

Unfortunately, it seems that all that extra effort may have been in vain after all. According to the latest information provided by ElevenSports journalist Daniel Sobis, the Athletic Club star will remain a player for the Basque club for the upcoming 2024/2025 campaign and will stay put with his current team.

While this is by no means a confirmation or official news, it serves as a clear warning sign to Barcelona if it turns out to be true. Waiting for one player without definitive results is irksome, but it is also very dangerous for a club like Barça. Already possessing limited resources, the club could end up losing out on other great market opportunities while waiting for one player.

At the moment, however, Nico Williams is still on holiday with Barcelona star Lamine Yamal. Both players are yet to rejoin their respective clubs, but Barça will still be hoping for a positive turnaround that ends up seeing both Spaniards reunited in the colors of FC Barcelona.
