Although Hansi Flick is expected to keep the current core of the FC Barcelona team going into the next season, the attack is one of the areas that can see some significant changes. This is quite clear already with the departure of Robert Lewandowski, who left the club after completing his contract and has now signed with Chicago Fire, and the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
Meanwhile, the future of Raphinha in the Catalan team is also not too assured at the moment, as he continues to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. On the other hand, Lamine Yamal is expected to remain the spearhead of the Barcelona attack for years to come, even though the Blaugranes are also keen to bring another star to their team, Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid.
As SPORT has reported, the Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia recently appeared in an interview with RAC1, and among other things, also commented on some of these players.
About the new signing Anthony Gordon, the goalie said:
“He was the player who caused us problems against Newcastle… [With] his intensity, his pressing, and his decision-making on the ball… He can contribute a lot to Barça.”
The Spaniard also talked about Julian Alvarez:
“Everyone knows he’s a great player, but he’s an Atlético player. There’s not much we can do about what he and the clubs decide. We don’t know whether what’s being reported in the press is true or not, so we don’t pay too much attention to it.”
Garcia also talked about the physical condition of his teammate in the Spanish national team, Lamine Yamal, who recovered just in time for the group stage matches in the World Cup:
“I see him doing well… The steps that have been taken have been the right ones: introducing him gradually so he could get into rhythm.”
“The other day he played the full match and was a bit tired, but that’s normal. With these training sessions he’s regained his rhythm, and I think now we’ll be able to see him at 100%.”
It is clear that Lamine Yamal is still not 100% fit, and this is also impacting his performances for Spain in the World Cup. Hopefully, he would have regained his full fitness when La Roja play their next game in the competition, against Austria on Thursday, in the Round of 32. This being an elimination game, the young winger would have to be at his best to ensure his team’s progression to the next round.
Meanwhile, Joan Garcia is unlikely to play an important role in this game, as he has not been a starter for Luis de la Fuente so far. But there is no doubt that the Barcelona goalkeeper can get the job done if given the chance, even at a stage as big as the World Cup.
