Barcelona sign Gabriel Jesus

FC Barcelona have confirmed the summer signing of Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal on a three-year deal.

The Brazilian forward, who moved to the Premier League with Manchester City in 2016 before signing for the Gunners in 2022, joins a Barcelona side that has been crying out for an out-and-out striker all summer.

Attempts to sign Atletico Madrid’s Julián Álvarez have failed, even after president Joan Laporta took to social media to confirm the club’s interest in the 26-year-old, and Arsenal were not willing to sell Viktor Gyökeres this summer.

But the two clubs managed to strike a deal for Gabriel Jesus, who scored 32 goals in 123 appearances for the North London side. The striker dropped down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta after sustaining an ACL injury in January 2025, and the arrival of Gyökeres at the start of the following season dented his chances of returning to regular first-team action.

It is fair to say that few would have expected Gabriel Jesus to sign for Barcelona at the start of the transfer window – or perhaps even a week ago – but at his unveiling on Tuesday, the 29-year-old affirmed that he’s not fussed about being a ‘surprise’ signing, as one reporter put it.

“It doesn’t bother me, it doesn’t offend me,” he explains, adding that “what bothers me is not playing football.”
