Barcelona sporting director Deco shared his thoughts following the club’s 2-1 victory over Albacete in the Copa del Rey, offering his assessment of the match while also addressing the unfortunate injury situation involving Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The former Barcelona midfielder first analysed the team’s performance, acknowledging both the positives and the difficulties they faced during the game.
Deco pointed out that while the team started strongly, Albacete managed to create problems, especially in transitions.
“We started well, but we also struggled against Albacete’s attacks. However, after persisting, we managed to score.
“We have to keep going in the same vein in the second half.”
He also took a moment to praise Lamine Yamal, who continues to impress with his output this season.
“Lamine? He’s fine, he’s got spark. He likes to feel good on the pitch, and when that happens, we benefit, and that’s important.”
Attention then turned to the recently closed winter transfer window.

Deco explained the club’s main movement, which saw ter Stegen leave on loan to Girona.
While the move was intended to give the goalkeeper valuable minutes, the plan has been disrupted by a serious injury.
“We had the departure of Ter Stegen, who went out on loan to Girona. It was a great moment for him, and we’re disappointed about the injury he’s suffered.”
He went on to underline that the setback was not part of the original plan and that both clubs will now need to work together during the recovery process.
”Marc’s situation hasn’t turned out as we expected due to that injury, and now we have to see how his recovery will go between Girona and the medical team.”
Finally, Deco spoke about Joao Cancelo, Barcelona’s only signing during the winter window.
The Portuguese defender started the match against Albacete, and the sporting director expressed satisfaction with what he brings to the squad.
“He came to give us the possibility of playing on both flanks and we are happy with what we have done,” he concluded.
