Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has made it clear that the club has complete faith in Hansi Flick’s abilities.
He emphasised that if the team continues to perform at a consistent level, the club would be open to keeping the German coach for many years to come.
He began saying that following Xavi’s departure and a challenging season, Barcelona needed a manager with experience and a strong track record.
The club was looking for someone capable of restoring order within the dressing room while uniting a squad that consists of both experienced veterans and emerging young talents.
Managing a team with players as young as 17 and as experienced as 35 is not an easy task, but Flick has been able to create a sense of cohesion within the squad.
“After Xavi’s departure and a tough season, I think we needed a coach with proven experience who would put order in the dressing room,” he told SPORT.
“The squad is a big family, but it is difficult to manage because of the imbalance I said before, with players 35 years old and Lamine at 17.”

Flick’s current contract runs until 2026, and questions about an early renewal have already been raised. However, Deco believes it is too soon to discuss such matters.
“Here we are going too fast in everything. We went from euphoria to despair in a minute. Things are going well and other coaches have gone through this, it’s a natural sequence of a project that works,” he added.
The team has already won a title under Flick, and there is a positive atmosphere around the club. However, Deco insists that the focus should remain on maintaining this momentum rather than rushing into a contract extension.
“We have won a title, the sensations are good. The most important thing is that the partner wants it.
While the club is pleased with Flick’s work, both parties agree that contract talks can wait for the right moment, as it is not a pressing issue for either side.
“We are also very happy with the work that is being done and if everything continues like this, we will work to keep it going for many years. From here, the time will come, but it is not a priority now for us or for him,” he explained.

The role of a coach is always crucial, and Flick’s impact on Barcelona has been significant. The club was clear about what it wanted from him, and so far, he has delivered.
Managing a squad with a mix of young prospects, experienced veterans, and players in their prime is a complex challenge.
“Coaches are always important and they are key at all times. We knew what we were looking for with Flick and that’s what’s happening. He is a coach who manages the players very well in the dressing room.”
His ability to bring out the best in his squad has helped Barcelona play entertaining and exciting football, keeping the fans engaged and optimistic about the future.
“We have a squad with very young players, other veterans, there are middle-aged players. There is an imbalance, it is a difficult management and he is doing very well,” he noted.
