Barcelona stalwart finally opens up on his contractual situation: ‘The most important thing is…’ | OneFootball

Uncertainty continues to surround Robert Lewandowski as Barcelona approach a decisive end to the season, with the striker’s future now one of the most talked-about topics at the club.

The veteran forward, whose current deal is nearing its expiry, remains at the centre of ongoing discussions. 

Barcelona are believed to be open to extending his stay by another year, but only under financial conditions that fit their current economic situation. 

That has created a delicate situation, especially with reports suggesting the player is not entirely convinced by the initial offer presented.

Lewandowski addresses the situation

With speculation growing by the day, Lewandowski has now addressed the situation publicly. 

Speaking on Esport3’s FanZone programme, the Polish striker chose his words carefully, making it clear that clarity will come in time rather than immediately.

He hinted that both he and the club are aligned in understanding the situation, but no final call has been made yet.

“We have time. The club knows exactly what I’m thinking. I need some time to think; that’s clear on both sides. 

“The most important thing is to know what we want to do this season. I don’t want to talk about offers or the future. La Liga is what matters. Then we can talk.”

The Catalan side were knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid, a result that has left a lasting sting within the squad.

Reflecting on that disappointment, Lewandowski did not hide his frustration, especially given the ambitions Barcelona carried into the competition. 

“It always hurts to be knocked out of the Champions League. We wanted to fight until the end and reach the semi-finals, but that’s football. 

“We have to focus on La Liga. We want to win it. We’ve got a few days now and La Liga is all we’re thinking about.”

La Liga chances

Despite the setback in Europe, there is still a belief within the squad that domestic success can define their campaign. 

Lewandowski, as one of the dressing room leaders, underlined the importance of moving forward rather than dwelling on missed opportunities.

“It’s football; I think we have huge potential. We’re keen to win and play football. 

“Football isn’t always fair; we can win La Liga this season and we have important matches ahead. 

“We can’t dwell on what happened; the future is more important. There are good things and things that hurt more,” he concluded.
