A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona was pipped to the title of player with the most official matches played for club and country in 2024.

Stopper Koundé for his part took to the pitch on a whopping 70 occasions over the course of the recently-completed calendar year.

And only one player in the professional game managed a higher tally, in Liverpool star Cody Gakpo.

Dutchman Gakpo notched 71 appearances in 2024, enough to secure for himself the title, from a fitness standpoint at least, of football’s most reliable player.

Elsewhere in the top-5, as cited by transfermarkt, are a pair of La Liga midfielders, in Atlético Madrid standout Rodrigo De Paul and Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde, both of whom managed 68 outings.
