Barcelona and Athletic Club are expected to renew their transfer battle over  Nico Williams in 2025.

Williams returned to the Basque side’s starting line up this weekend as they lost 2-1 away at Barcelona in a crunch La Liga clash.

The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a transfer to La Blaugrana if they were able to activate his €58m release clause at the Estadio San Mames.

However, despite the external pressure, Athletic Club have shut out the noise, and he remains in Bilbao.

The situation remains in a state of flux, with Barcelona open in their interest to bring Williams to the club, and his current side are preparing to do it all over again next summer.

Former Athletic Club star Inigo Martinez finds himself with split loyalties over the transfer race and he insists the final call will be made by the player in the best interests of his career.

“Nico is going to continue growing, if it’s in a new team, that’s fine and if it’s at Athletic Club, that’s also fine. The decision will always be his”, as per quotes from Diario AS.
