Barcelona star has accepted the fact that, in all likelihood, he will be left with no choice but to depart the club during the winter transfer window.
This comes with the goalkeeper desperate for playing time ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
Ter Stegen is of course sidelined long-term at present, after undergoing surgery for a back injury over the summer.
The 33-year-old is now in the final stages of his recovery, ahead of a predicted return to fitness at some point in December.
Ter Stegen, though, has no place in the plans of Barcelona boss Hansi Flick, sitting behind both Joan García and Wojciech Szczęsny in the shot-stopper pecking order in Catalunya’s capital.
And for this reason, ahead of the 2026 World Cup, the Blaugrana captain is preparing to move on, at least on a temporary basis.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:
‘Ter Stegen is clear that he won’t be Flick’s first choice and that his objective is to regain match fitness and match rhythm, making a move a more than viable option.’
