Barcelona star could be used in new position vs Valencia | OneFootball

A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona could slot into a midfield berth in the club’s next outing.

That’s according to Marca, who point towards Eric García as the player in question.

Stopper Eric is for his part of course fresh off an altogether productive opening to the new campaign.

Building on his fine close to the 2024/25 season, the former Manchester City man has featured from the off in all three of Barcelona’s fixtures.

These appearances have come across a pair of positions, right-back, and centre-back.

And as alluded to above, Eric could yet line out in another role this weekend, when Barcelona play host to Valencia.

As per a report from Marca, with Frenkie de Jong and Gavi expected to miss out, Eric is, alongside Marc Casadó, a leading candidate to join Pedri at the base of Hansi Flick’s midfield.

The Spanish international slotted into this position on several occasions last season, and largely impressed.

Boss Flick, in turn, is considering testing Eric as a midfielder once more on Sunday.
