FC Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has already added spice to the next Clasico before Marc Cucurella has even made his Real Madrid debut.
Speaking to COPE (h/t Fabrizio Romano), the Barcelona winger was asked about facing Cucurella in the Clasico and delivered a typically confident answer:
“Look, I told him that he will start the first match but by second he will already be a substitute…”
Then came the punchline: “…because I’m going to eat him alive.”
This is exactly the kind of personality that makes Lamine so magnetic. He is still only 18, but he speaks and plays with the confidence of someone who knows he belongs on the biggest stage.
Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid already carried a strong Barcelona angle because he came through La Masia before building his career elsewhere.
Now, the idea of him facing Lamine directly gives the rivalry a new individual storyline. Madrid have signed an energetic, aggressive left-back. Barça have the most dangerous young winger in world football waiting on that side.
Lamine’s words will travel quickly, especially after Cucurella recently joked that he would rather wake up bald than with a Barcelona badge tattooed on his chest.
That kind of comment was always going to get a response. Lamine’s answer feels less like anger and more like pure competitive instinct.
There is always a line with these things. Young players must back up their words, and Clasicos are not won in interviews.
However, Barcelona should not want Lamine to lose this edge. His fearlessness is part of what makes him special.
He plays like someone who enjoys responsibility. He wants the ball, wants the duel and wants the crowd to feel something every time he isolates a defender.
Against Cucurella, that duel could become one of the defining images of the next Clasico. Cucurella will be physical, intense and experienced. Lamine will try to twist the match with timing, skill and arrogance in the best football sense.
From a Barça perspective, this is the right kind of fire. Not empty drama, but a young star making it clear that he is ready to challenge anyone in a Madrid shirt.
The first Clasico cannot come soon enough.
