A leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has come in for widespread praise owing to his latest performance on the international stage.
The player in question? Marc-André ter Stegen.
Goalkeeper Ter Stegen was for his part back in action on Wednesday night.
After recently returning to fitness following a long-term spell on the sidelines through injury, the 33-year-old was thrown straight back in at the deep end by his country.
This came by way of a starting berth in Germany’s Nations League semi-final meeting with Portugal.
Julian Nagelsmann’s troops were ultimately condemned to the wrong side of a 2-1 result at the Allianz Arena, but along the way, Ter Stegen nothing short of dazzled.
Providing a timely reminder of his talents to those of a Barcelona persuasion who have been calling for his head for several weeks now, the experienced shot-stopper conjured up a string of world-class saves.
This included a brilliant double stop late on, to kick Germany in with a shot of turning things around.
Food for thought for a Barcelona outfit preparing for an imminent change in the club’s goalkeeper pecking order for the 2025/26 campaign…
