The Spanish Football Federation have on Sunday announced a pair of alterations to the country’s squad.
This comes owing to developments in La Roja’s Nations League meeting with Denmark on Saturday night.
En route to an eventual 1-0 triumph, wide-man Lamine Yamal was on the receiving end of a number of heavy challenges, leaving the Barcelona star in evident discomfort post-match.
After a round of medical tests carried out on Sunday morning, it was subsequently decided that Lamine would be granted an early return to Barcelona.
As per a statement on the part of the RFEF:
‘Lamine Yamal underwent an MRI this morning in Madrid to assess the discomfort he reported after the match against Denmark.
‘The tests have not detected a structural injury and the RFEF medical services confirm that it is an overload.
‘Prioritizing the player’s health and to avoid any risk of injury, given the imminent match against Serbia, it was decided to remove him from the squad.’
As much opened up a fresh spot in the squad of Luis de la Fuente, which has since swiftly been filled.
In a further announcement on Sunday afternoon, Spain confirmed that Atlético Madrid star Rodrigo Riquelme has been drafted into the country’s panel to face Serbia on Tuesday.
