Barcelona star reveals details of José Mourinho phone call | OneFootball

Barcelona summer signing Rodri has early this week provided an insight into the conversations he held with Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho, prior to taking his talents to Catalunya’s capital.

Midfielder Rodri was of course faced with a major decision regarding his future during the summer transfer window.

After making the call to depart long-time employers Manchester City, the 30-year-old was sought out by the two leading clubs in his home country, namely Barcelona and Real Madrid.

At one point, it appeared as though the latter held the edge in the race, considered favourites to ultimately bring Rodri back to La Liga.

When all was said and done, though, the World Cup winner himself opted for the other half of the Clásico divide.

And speaking during an interview with Mundo Deportivo this week, Rodri opened up on his direct exchanges with José Mourinho, amid the efforts of the Real Madrid boss to lure him to the Santiago Bernabéu:

“Mourinho called me and clearly expressed his desire for me to join the club. He treated me very well. When I made my decision, I called him to thank him for his interest and for how he treated me.”
