Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski has on Tuesday secured for himself a piece of club history.

Unfortunately for the Pole, though, as much comes for altogether less-than-positive reasons…

Lewandowski was for his part in from the off this evening, as Barcelona welcomed Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid to Catalunya’s capital for a La Liga clash.

And late in the first-half, with the scoreline locked at a goal apiece, the 37-year-old was afforded a golden opportunity to put Hansi Flick’s hosts in front.

This came by way of a penalty won by teammate Dani Olmo.

Lewandowski’s ensuing effort from 12 yards, however, was directed some way over the Atlético crossbar.

This means that the former Bayern Munich man has now missed two of his three penalty attempts across the early months of the campaign.

And owing to as much, Lewandowski has made history…

As revealed by statistician ‘MisterChip’ on ‘X’:

‘Robert Lewandowski is the first Barcelona player to miss two penalties in the same season in the entire history of La Liga.’
