FC Barcelona got vital three points from their visit to the Canary Islands on Saturday as they won their game over Las Palmas, and this win allows them to retain the top spot in La Liga even after Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid also won their matches on matchday 25.
Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres were the two scorers for the Blaugranes in this game, but one can argue that Olmo’s goal was the most decisive as it came only a few minutes into the second half and was enough to give the Catalans a win. Torres’ goal came only in the very last moments of the game.
The assist for Olmo’s goal came from none other than the young winger Lamine Yamal, who continues to be a key player for Hansi Flick’s Barcelona despite being only 17 years of age.
With this latest assist, Yamal has taken his assists tally to 11, and, as Mundo Deportivo has noted, this places him at the top of the assists table in La Liga, while in the top 5 European leagues, he stands second, only behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
In La Liga, Yamal has four more assists than the three players who are jointly placed in second place, i.e., Alex Baena (Villarreal), Raphinha (Barcelona), and Inaki Williams (Athletic Club), all of whom have 7 assists to their names.
In the top five European leagues, Salah has 5 more assists than Yamal, but the Blaugrana winger is ahead of other notable names like Florian Wirtz, Bukayo Saka, Mikkel Damsgaard, and Antonee Robinson, all of whom have 10 assists to their names this season.
Meanwhile, the Spaniard is also having a good season from a historical point of view, as he has already surpassed the tally of the top-assist maker in the Barcelona squad last season, i.e., Ilkay Gundogan, who had 10 assists.
Similarly, he has also doubled his own tally from last season, when he assisted five goals, and is well on track to make it to 18 assists this season, which will allow him to get into the top five players with the most assists in a single La Liga season in the competition’s history.
There are still 13 games to play this season, and the way he is playing, no one would bet against him reaching this number in the coming weeks.
