Barcelona star to miss PSG & Real Madrid matches | OneFootball

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong is not expected to return to fitness in time to play his part in either of the club’s upcoming showdowns with Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid.

This comes amid the understanding that the 29-year-old remains some way off his comeback to competitive duties.

Midfielder De Jong is for his part yet to take to the pitch this season. Whilst his teammates in Hansi Flick’s squad have run riot in Spain and on the continent alike, the Dutchman has been forced to watch on from the sidelines.

De Jong suffered a serious knee injury at this summer’s World Cup, the extent of which was only discovered upon his return to base in Barcelona.

The former Ajax man opted against going under the knife to repair the issue, instead favouring conservative treatment. And his progress, though steady, has since been slow.

De Jong is expected to return to training at the Ciutat Esportiva early in October. But as per a report from Diario AS:

‘He will not be available against either PSG or Real Madrid, with the match against Alavés on November 1st at the Camp Nou being the first opportunity for his return.’
