Two of the Premier League’s leading clubs set their sights on the signature of Barcelona star Eric García during the summer transfer window.

Both, however, were ultimately forced to abandon their pursuits, upon learning of the Spaniard’s desire to stay put in his home country.

Eric has for his part of course spent the early weeks of the new season establishing himself as a key figure in Hansi Flick’s squad.

Amid the ongoing injury problems in Barcelona, the former Manchester City man has emerged as one of the most consistent performers in the Blaugrana’s first-team ranks.

All told, Eric has played his part in each and every one of Barca’s 13 fixtures in all competitions.

Had things played out differently over the summer, though, such excellence could instead have been showcased in the Premier League, rather than La Liga.

As per a report from Diario Sport, citing TBR Football, both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur ‘sounded out’ Eric’s signing over the summer.

Both club and player, however, were quick to make clear their eagerness to continue together.

As much is expected to culminate in the versatile defender being handed a new contract by the Camp Nou brass over the weeks ahead.
