Barcelona star: ‘We’re not favourites to win the Champions League’ | OneFootball

Barcelona summer signing Rodri has early this week revealed his take that he and his teammates should not be considered the frontrunners to go all the way on the continent this season.

Barca are of course fresh off arguably the most impressive start to the term of any club in Europe’s top-5 leagues. Across six outings between domestic and European competition, the Blaugrana have racked up six wins.

Not only that, but in the process, Flick’s troops have racked up an astounding 26 goals, whilst allowing just five at the other end of the pitch.

With summer additions Rodri, Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon still settling into their new surroundings in Catalunya’s capital, many, in turn, have already gone as far as to label Barcelona the early favourites to lift the Champions League.

Speaking during an interview with Mundo Deportivo this week, the subject of as much was therefore put to Rodri, a player with knowledge of precisely what it takes to lift the Champions League trophy.

The 30-year-old, though, whilst acknowledging that Barca should certainly not be ruled out, was keen to make clear that the Blaugrana are also not the most likely eventual winners:

”Yes, I definitely see it as a feasible title, and it’s, so to speak, that little step we need to take to consolidate our position and show Europe what kind of team we are. Beyond that, I don’t think we’re favourites. We have to understand where we’ve come from; we have to understand what it takes to be champions, and this team still needs to refine several things to become champions. Players like me are also here for that reason, to grow and give the team that extra something I think is important to win titles as unique as the Champions League, because I believe the Champions League isn’t a tournament about who’s the best; it’s a tournament of moments and understanding what those moments are, and I think that’s perhaps the margin this team has left. Now, if you ask me if there are any chances, that’s why I came here.”
