Barcelona manager Hansi Flick plans to improve Eric Garcia’s prominence in the dressing room and on the field this season and is pleased with the manner in which the player adapted to the demands of playing at right-back last term.

The situation, thus, sees the Spaniard as Barcelona’s second-choice right-back only behind Jules Kounde, as was clear from the first pre-season game against Vissel Kobe, where the duo manned the position across both halves.

Hector Fort, understandably, was the player most affected by the development, and it became clear that he is not only third-choice in the position but also seen as transferable by the management.

An impression in Seoul

Earlier today, the La Masia graduate was given minutes in Barcelona’s 7-3 win over FC Seoul in South Korea. Fort came on in the second half, taking advantage of Eric Garcia’s discomfort, and left a positive impression on the manager, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo.

The player is currently seen as transferable and has attracted interest from top-flight teams including Mallorca.

Despite that, he played at a great level on Thursday night and has no intention of giving up his pursuit of securing a place in the first team.

It remains to be seen if Hansi Flick gives the youngster minutes in Daegu as part of Barcelona’s final pre-season game on tour.

The chances appear slim if Garcia recovers, but cannot be ruled out after today’s performance.

Taking to the field for 45 minutes, the 18-year-old defender completed 100% of his passes, racked up 40 touches and made five defensive actions. He blocked one shot and lost possession only once on the night.

A departure is likely, and Barcelona will see his positive performance to be an aid in improving his market value to potential suitors.

After all, the club can use any funds that come from the operation, should it go through.
