In recent weeks, it has seemed almost certain that Dani Rodriguez would be leaving Barcelona. The 18-year-old winger has been strong linked with Athletic Club and Tottenham Hotspur, and it seems very likely that he would be signing for one of them when his contract at the Catalan giants comes to an end in the summer.
However, there’s now been a significant U-turn in the situation, and MD have reported that Barcelona are now confident of Rodriguez extending his stay. He has been offered a new contract, which he will now consider over the coming weeks.
Barcelona’s idea for Rodriguez, if he stays, is for him to make the step up to Barca Atletic for next season, with a medium-term view to being promoted to the first team. He could have chances to do so, with uncertainty surrounding the likes of Raphinha, Joao Felix and Ferran Torres.
Barcelona do not want to lose Rodriguez, especially for free, and that is shown in their insistence for him to sign a new contract. It remains to be seen whether his stay will be extended.
