Since returning in September, after a year out due to an ACL injury, Barcelona youngster Marc Bernal has only played a little over 200 minutes across 11 matches in all competitions.
The 18-year-old starlet enjoys the full trust of manager Hansi Flick. However, the manager has been careful with his reintegration so that there are no relapses or future complications, especially having seen Gavi’s physical problems this term.
Moreover, with the likes of Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Eric Garcia ahead of him in the pecking order, and Gavi closing in on a return, the La Masia talent’s chances of playing regularly appear minimal.
As a result, Barcelona are open to the idea of letting Bernal leave on loan this month so that his development can continue unhindered.
Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Bernal has yet to make a decision on a potential loan departure this month, and his involvement in the upcoming matches will be key.
Bernal aims to recover the year of inactivity lost due to the serious knee injury he suffered in 2024. He needs minutes and competitive action to return to his best.

After several months of inconsistency, Flick has begun to give him playing time, and if this approach continues, the idea is for him to stay. If he feels that the manager does not count on him, the midfielder will consider a temporary move away.
As such, the report states that the Copa del Rey match against Racing Santander on Thursday will act as a barometer for Bernal. The Barcelona midfielder will learn the degree of confidence Flick has in him.
Barça have five more matches left before the January transfer window closes: against Racing Santander, Real Sociedad, Slavia Praha, Real Oviedo and FC Copenhagen.
How much Bernal features in these matches will shape his decision, with Girona one of the clubs vying to sign him on loan. A meeting will take place between the club and the youngster in the coming days to make a decision.
