Entering into the summer, FC Barcelona were said to be interested in signing a new right-back to compete with Jules Kounde.
After all, manager Hansi Flick was not entirely won over by Hector Fort as the cover, limiting the youngster to a very reduced role during the 2024/25 campaign.
However, with Barça going all out for a goalkeeper and a left-winger, the right-back position is no longer seen as a priority, more so after the performances shown by Eric Garcia towards the backend of the season during Kounde’s injury-enforced absence.
Despite this change of plans from Deco & co., Brazilian outlet UOL (h/t SPORT) reports that Barcelona continue to be interested in AS Monaco right-back Vanderson.
The Brazilian defender is a profile that Deco likes, and now the report claims that Barça have taken a step forward in negotiations for the Monaco ace.
Vanderson, currently a regular with the Brazilian national team under Carlo Ancelotti, is said to be subject to a preferential option held by Barcelona.

However, La Liga’s strict financial fair play regulations remain a significant hurdle to completing the deal this summer.
The report also notes that Barcelona are not the only club interested. Tottenham Hotspur are also in the race and are willing to submit a serious offer. Monaco, meanwhile, are aiming to sell the 23-year-old for around €35 million or more.
Vanderson represents the classic Brazilian full-back: explosive, attack-minded, and dynamic on the flank. He also shows good decision-making in the final third.
While he had been seen as an option by the Blaugrana’s sporting management, as things stand, the right-back position is not considered a priority despite the reports coming out from Brazil.
Whether the situation changes over the coming months remains to be seen, but at the moment, Barcelona are not prioritising a move for a new right-back.
