Barcelona still unable to register Dani Olmo despite exits – three avenues to solve issue

Barcelona have made one major addition to their squad this summer in Dani Olmo, but there is still no clarity on when he will be available. The 26-year-old joined from RB Leipzig for €55m plus €7m in variables, but looks set to miss a third straight game against Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday after sitting out against Valencia and Athletic Club.

Olmo has been unable to take to the pitch yet, as Barcelona work on trimming their wage bill and sealing new sponsorship deals. Despite three departures occurring in the last two days though, Barcelona have not cleared sufficient room in their salary limit to register Olmo, as per Cadena SER and as confirmed by Relevo.

Clement Lenglet has joined Atletico Madrid on loan, Vitor Roque has headed to Real Betis in a loan with an option to buy, and the Blaugrana will bring in around €10m from the exit of Mikayil Faye to Rennes. Yet it appears they will have to do more.

As per MD, there are three main avenues through which they can look to bring in enough income to register Olmo. One of them is a bank guarantee from the board of directors, which must be compensated during the course of the season. The other is by signing an improved sponsorship deal with Nike, with negotiations ongoing for several months at this point. The third option is to find a fresh buyer for the shares of Barca Vision, and they are currently in talks with cryptocurrency sponsor Whitebit.

The longer the issue goes on, the more damaging it is not only to Barcelona’s image, but also that of President Joan Laporta. He had promised that Barcelona would be back within their salary limit and capable of making big signings on multiple occasions in recent months. The evidence is so far that this is not the case.
