Given that it’s far from certain that Atletico Madrid will eventually allow Julian Alvarez to join Barcelona this summer, sporting director Deco has started drawing up alternative options. Eli Junior Kroupi has been mentioned, although the favoured candidate at this stage is Bayern Munich and England number nine Harry Kane.

In the last 24 hours, it has been reported that Barcelona are ready to go all-out for Kane after the 2026 World Cup is over. The Catalans sense an opportunity to sign the 32-year-old at a reduced cost, given that he only has 12 months left on his contract in Bavaria, although they have now firmly been told not to bother making a move.

As per The Athletic, Barcelona have been informed by Kane’s representatives that he is happy at Bayern, and although an agreement on a new contract has yet to be reached, the feeling is that one will be finalised in the coming weeks.

Kane has been in spectacular form since joining Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur three years ago, scoring 146 goals in 147 appearances across all competitions. He and his family are very settled in Bavaria, and although the lure of Barcelona could be strong, he’s made it clear that he does not think about moving his summer.

What now for Barcelona in their Alvarez alternative search?

It’s clear that Barcelona must have a backup plan in place for the striker position. There is no guarantee that Atleti cave regarding Alvarez, which is why it is essential for Deco and his team to make the necessary arrangements for backup options. Kane would have been an excellent one, but with him soon-to-be off the market, work must begin again.

As mentioned, Kroupi is another player that Barcelona like, although Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be courting him. To make matters worse, a further option is Fisnik Asllani is reportedly closing in on a move to Borussia Dortmund.
