FC Barcelona brought in some reinforcements to their team in the last summer transfer window, and are expected to do so once again next summer, when they are quite confident that they will once again be operating under the 1:1 rule.
SPORT has provided an update regarding the general plans of the Barcelona Sporting Director, Deco, for the next market window.
In regards to departures, the report claims that the Portuguese official is clear that none of the protected players would have to leave, and only two players from the first team would have to be sold, to generate the required salary space, without touching the backbone of the team.
The club’s priority remains deciding Robert Lewandowski’s future. The striker appears more likely to leave than stay due to his age, limited playing time, and high salary. Barcelona is also keen to resolve the situations of Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ansu Fati, whose wages need to be cleared to create financial flexibility.
For new signings, Barcelona will focus on a center-forward and a central defender. The club is still considering reinforcements for the full-back positions, but prefers promoting academy players if they meet the required level. The continuation of Joao Cancelo is also under review, depending on opportunities in the market.
While the presidential elections temporarily slow down final decisions, Deco has already made progress in negotiations and expects to execute the plan by the end of March.
The club also has clarity on the two players likely to depart, with representatives expected to be informed soon. Hopefully, Deco will be able to complete his desired operations without too many problems.
