The long-running saga surrounding FC Barcelona veteran superstar Robert Lewandowski’s future may finally be approaching its conclusion.

The 37-year-old striker’s contract expires at the end of the current season, and a decision on his next move has been awaited for a while now.

While Barça are open to retaining him for an additional season, it will be at a much lower salary and a secondary role in the team – something that does not convince the Pole.

As such, reports earlier today from Poland suggested that Lewandowski was on his way out and that he could end up moving to Saudi Arabia.

Lewandowski to accept bumper contract from Al Hilal

Building on that, Polish journalist Jaroslaw Kolinski reports that Lewandowski has received a concrete and official offer from Al Hilal and is close to accepting it.

While nothing has been signed yet and the situation could still change, the Saudi club are currently the most advanced in negotiations with the Poland captain.

The proposed deal is enormous. According to the report, Al Hilal have offered Lewandowski a salary worth €90 million per season, a figure that would place him among the highest-paid footballers in the world.

Why Al Hilal?

From Lewandowski’s perspective, the move carries several attractions beyond the financial aspect.

Al Hilal possess one of the strongest squads in Saudi football, featuring internationally recognised names such as Ruben Neves, Darwin Nunez and Karim Benzema, while Simone Inzaghi currently leads the side from the bench.

The sporting project is also considered competitive. Although Al Hilal currently trail Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr in the league standings, they remain unbeaten this season and sit only five points behind with a game in hand.

Their recent performances on the international stage have also strengthened their appeal, particularly after reaching the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup and eliminating Manchester City along the way.

At 37 years old, Lewandowski is also said to be thinking carefully about preserving his physical condition while remaining competitive for the Polish national team, which he has no intention of leaving behind.

Those close to the player believe he understands that maintaining Barcelona’s demanding training intensity for another full season could have consequences physically.

Saudi Arabia, therefore, is viewed as a compromise that could offer him exactly what he needs at this stage of his career: slightly lighter physical demands while still guaranteeing regular playing time.

That balance would allow him to remain fresh and available for Poland ahead of major international commitments.
