Barcelona spent the last few matches of the season without Lamine Yamal, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign as he looks to get ready for the FIFA World Cup.
Barcelona have their reservations when it comes to Yamal’s fitness, with the club fearing Spain may once again poorly manage his recovery and rush him back too soon.
Nevertheless, Yamal recently made an appearance at a Kings League event, where he offered an update on his fitness.
The 18-year-old was present at the King’s League semi-finals, where his team La Capital CF faced Rayo de Barcelona.
When asked whether he would take the traditional president’s penalty during the game, Yamal quickly shut down the idea.
“I won’t touch a ball until the World Cup,” he said.
It is apparent that the Spaniard is not taking any risks before he is ready to return to competitive action, and that he is not taking any risks with the muscle injury he suffered to his left biceps femoris at the end of April.

Yamal’s initial recovery estimate was set at between six and eight weeks. Spain’s opening World Cup fixture comes on June 15th against Cape Verde, with further group stage matches against Saudi Arabia on June 21st and Uruguay on June 27th.
In the optimistic scenario, Yamal could be available from the Cape Verde game onwards. In the more conservative projection, he may not be ready until the Uruguay fixture.
Either way, the indications are that he will be fit for the tournament, which is the only thing that matters for both club and country.
