Less than 24 hours remain for Luis de la Fuente to announce his squad for Spain’s campaign in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, and several Barcelona players are on alert for the same.

While the likes of Pedri, Pau Cubarsi, Dani Olmo, and Lamine Yamal are almost guaranteed spots in the shortlist, others like Eric Garcia and Gavi will eagerly await the list to see if their number is called up.

Of the players to be called up, however, Yamal’s situation is slightly different as he is still nursing an injury that ended his season for Barcelona, and he will even miss Spain’s opening games at the event.

Working hard

As reported by Diario AS in a recent report, Yamal is taking his recovery for the World Cup very seriously and is completely focused on being at 100% in the event beginning next month.

Despite the team winning La Liga and officially concluding the season on Saturday night, the winger was the only player who arrived at the club facilities on Sunday to train and further his recovery.

The player is working alongside physiotherapist Pablo Merino to ensure that his body stays prepared for the high-stakes event arriving, and will continue working with Fernando Galan once he joins the national team.

The goal in sight

The report further adds that Yamal is likely to miss Spain’s first two games in the World Cup and is expected to return in time for the team’s third clash against Uruguay towards the end of next month.

It has been just over a month since the player left the field injured for Barcelona, and with the right precautions, it will be two full months before he makes his return to the field is the objective of playing against Uruguay is met.

There is, however, always the chance that his recovery goes better than planned and that he features even earlier for Spain. Given that the second game is against Saudi Arabia and not a high-stakes encounter, however, he may well be rested even if he is fit.
