Barcelona’s interest in Alessandro Bastoni is no longer a secret.

The Inter Milan defender has established himself as one of the club’s top defensive targets, with the Catalan giants actively exploring ways to bring him to Spotify Camp Nou.

However, while the interest is clear, the path to completing such a transfer remains anything but straightforward.

Bastoni is under contract with Inter until 2028, and unlike in previous years, the Italian club are in a strong financial position.

This means they are under no pressure to sell one of their most important players.

As things stand, any move would require a significant financial effort from Barcelona or a clear push from the player himself.

Without that push, Barcelona’s hands are effectively tied. The club simply cannot justify entering a bidding war for a player whose current team have no intention of negotiating easily.

There are signs

Interestingly, though, recent developments off the pitch are working in Barcelona’s favour.

According to a report from SPORT, Bastoni has been increasingly active on social media.

The Italian centre-back has repeatedly liked posts from Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi, including the youngster’s latest post following the win over Rayo Vallecano.

This is not a one-off interaction, as it has become something of a pattern. Cubarsi’s profile features multiple interactions from Bastoni, with both players following each other and engaging regularly online.

Interestingly, if Bastoni were to join Barcelona, Cubarsi would likely be his defensive partner, forming a balanced centre-back pairing.

The growing digital connection between the two has therefore been interpreted by some as more than just casual interaction.

As such, it could also point towards a player who is at least open to the idea of a move.
