FC Barcelona’s hopes of making their grand return to the Spotify Camp Nou this weekend against Real Sociedad were dashed by the City Council.
Citing some more issues that needed addressing, the council did not grant the First Occupancy Licence on Tuesday, leading to the Sociedad game on Sunday being moved to Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
Now, according to SPORT, Barcelona’s plan is to return to the Spotify Camp Nou on 18 October when they take on Catalan rivals Girona in La Liga.
After Sunday’s game vs Sociedad, the Blaugrana’s next home game will be against PSG in the UEFA Champions League on 1 October, which has already been confirmed to be taking place in Montjuic as well.

Following that, Barça face Sevilla away from home before the international break arrives. Up next will be the game against Girona, on 18 October, which is when the Catalans hope to return to their hallowed turf.
Barcelona officials believe there is enough time to meet all safety requirements demanded by the City Council. In fact, municipal sources also suggest that Barça’s long-awaited homecoming is now very close.
In an interview earlier today, Barcelona mayor Jaume Collboni himself suggested that good news is just around the corner.
“I think we’re on the right schedule. A lot of progress has been made, and we’ll have good news soon,” Collboni said.
It could end up being a big weekend for Barcelona, as the club is planning to hold the General Assembly a day later, on 19 October.
