Julian Alvarez’s future has been a topic of serious discussion for a long time now, especially in Catalonia given all the interest Barcelona have shown in his signing.
With Robert Lewandowski having already played his final game as a Barcelona player, the Blaugrana are keen on signing a new striker in June and the Atletico Madrid star is high on their wish list.
There have, however, been talks of the player potentially renewing with Los Rojiblancos and even of Atletico Madrid being completely opposed to selling him at any price.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano now, Alvarez renewing at Atletico Madrid is looking very unlikely at the moment. In fact, it is not even seen as a concrete topic or conversation at the moment.

In 2026, there has been no movement on the renewal front and it is clear that the player is not convinced by the idea of extending his commitment to Diego Simeone’s side. The ball is currently in his park.
All eyes, thus, will be on Alvarez this summer to see what he decides, for he can push for whatever he sees best for his career. Barcelona, for their part, love the player and will be on the offensive for the signing.

While Atletico Madrid may indeed look to point to Alvarez’s contract when asked about his signing, it will be difficult for them to fend off interest from all the suitors knocking on his door, especially with the player himself not convinced.
Barcelona love the player and are firmly in the race, but even PSG and some top Premier League clubs are in the running and will go on the offensive for his signing. Atletico Madrid, thus, will not have it easy to keep him.
All doors, thus, are currently open and Alvarez leaving in the summer is a real possibility. Barcelona, for their part, must look to keep a high budget if they are to land the Argentine ace.
