Gilberto Mora is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about young players on Barcelona’s radar, and now his agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has offered a clear update on the teenager’s future and the strategy around his next move.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder currently plays for Club Tijuana and is already making headlines in Mexico.

Despite his age, Mora has accumulated 49 official appearances with the first team, scoring nine goals and providing two assists.

Those numbers, combined with his technical ability and maturity on the pitch, have attracted strong interest from several European clubs.

Barcelona are among the teams following his development closely, but they are far from alone.

Mora himself has previously admitted that there is growing attention from Europe, and his future could depend on finding the right environment for his growth rather than simply choosing the biggest name.

Update from the agent

Speaking to Claro Sports (h/t SPORT), his agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has made it clear that the priority is development, not rushing into a transfer.

“We’re in no rush, but he’s developing quickly. We need to study the ideal place for him to develop. At this age, you can’t be the best on your team.

“If you’re the best, you have to move to a higher-level team. At this age, you shouldn’t be the leader; you have to be the kid who looks at the others and says, ‘I have to be like them.’”

Pimenta also used the opportunity to criticise the way young players from certain leagues are valued in the transfer market.

She argued that talents from Mexico are often undervalued compared to players from Brazil, even when the quality is similar.

“Something that really irritates me is why a player in Brazil should cost 80 million and in Mexico, eight.

“The Brazilian league is no better than the Mexican league. The Europeans want Mexicans to believe that they can’t be worth that much because it’s in their interest to keep the price down.

“I see it with Gilberto and also with the sponsors. I’m going to do everything I can to sell Gilberto for a high price,” concludes Pimenta.
