At a time when Barcelona have endured topsy-turvy form, with the team managing wins but just simply not doing enough to advance further in the Copa Del Rey, Marc Bernal has been one of the shining lights.

The young midfielder has really taken the recent opportunities and has made the most out of them, emerging as the club’s top performer.

In the last five matches alone, Bernal has recorded four goals in all competitions, which is quite impressive for a midfielder.

Bernal beats Vinicius Jr.’s record

As pointed out by SPORT, the academy graduate’s recent goalscoring exploits have seen him equal an interesting milestone set by Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr.

During the Brazilian’s debut 2018/19 season in Spain, he managed four goals across 31 matches, totalling 1,742 minutes of play.

In comparison, Bernal has reached that same four-goal tally in just 695 minutes. The midfielder’s clinical streak includes strikes against Mallorca and Levante, alongside a stunning brace during the recent Copa del Rey semi-final against Atletico Madrid.

Remarkably, Bernal has matched the Real Madrid star’s first-season record in roughly half the games, with three months of the campaign still remaining.

While his offensive output is grabbing all the headlines, Hansi Flick is perhaps more impressed by the tactical stability Bernal provides.

The youngster has filled the void left by Frenkie de Jong’s injury, offering a level of defensive discipline that the numbers clearly support.

Bernal is winning back possession and distributing the ball with a maturity that belies his age. For a player who missed almost all of last season due to a serious knee injury, his rapid rise to become the team’s balancing force is nothing short of extraordinary.
