Barcelona have been very active in the transfer market over the last few weeks, and it means they will have a busy end to the window – which closes in 36 hours. For the first team, Gabriel Jesus is due to join from Arsenal, while La Masia will also be strengthened by the addition of multiple talented teenagers.
In the last few hours, a full agreement has been reached for Barcelona to sign defender Mikael Baza from Hamburger SV. The 16-year-old will alternate between Barca Atletic and the U19s during the 2026-27 season, and he will be followed into the club by another player from Germany.
Cadena SER have reported that Barcelona have agreed to sign Mirza Catovic. The 18-year-old midfielder will join from Stuttgart on a season-long loan that includes an option to make the move permanent in 2027, should the Catalans see fit.
Catovic has impressed in Stuttgart’s academy in recent years, and he has been a regular for their B team in the 3. Liga, Germany’s third tier. He will now continue his career in Catalonia, and Barcelona have high hopes that he could kick on and become a future option for the first team.
Catovic, who primarily plays as a defensive midfielder, will strengthen Barca Atletic’s ranks for the 2026-27 season, as they seek promotion from the fourth tier of Spanish football. Like Baza, he can also be called upon by the U19s for the UEFA Youth League, which the club won as recently as 2025.
It will be interesting to see how Catovic gets on at Barcelona. He will be one of several players that first team head coach Hansi Flick will have his eye on throughout the 2026-27 season, and it would be no surprise if he earned opportunities with the senior squad if he manages to impress for Barca Atletic in the coming months.
