Barcelona have plans to address multiple areas of Hansi Flick’s squad during the upcoming summer transfer window. They have already wrapped up the signing of Anthony Gordon, and he will surely be joined by another attacker, given that the Catalans are seeking to replace the departing Robert Lewandowski.
In midfield, there is a good chance that Bernardo Silva comes in to add much-needed experience, while in defence, there could be another couple of signings. A centre-back has been on the agenda for some time, while there are also murmurs that a left-back could arrive as a direct consequence of Alejandro Balde’s drop in form.
Balde has been a mainstay for Barcelona over the last few years, but his development has stagnated despite this. He was replaced by Joao Cancelo for the second year of last season, and again, he could find himself as a backup during the 2026-27 season.
Barcelona have been linked with signing Cancelo permanently, while they also hold an interest in Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella. But he is not the only Spaniard on their list, with Alejandro Grimaldo also considered as a candidate to replace Balde – and according to Matteo Moretto (via Sport), he can be signed for as little as €10m.
Bayer Leverkusen are keen to cash in on Grimaldo now, fearing that he will look to leave when his contract expires in the summer of 2027. Barcelona, along with Atletico Madrid, are aware of the situation, although they have yet to make a move.

Grimaldo is said to be very keen to return to Barcelona, whose La Masia academy he came through. However, a deal for the Leverkusen and Spain defender is not currently among the Catalans’ list of priorities, which continues to be headed up by their pursuit of Atleti striker Julian Alvarez.
