A new report from SPORT has revealed that Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s representatives have sent a clear message to Barcelona that if the club want him to leave in January, the move must be initiated by the club itself.
The German goalkeeper, who has been one of Barça’s most loyal servants over the past decade, now faces an uncertain future at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Having missed a significant portion of the season due to injury, Ter Stegen finds himself in a difficult position, particularly with the World Cup on the horizon.
For the 33-year-old, consistent playing time is essential to regain his spot in the German national team, a goal that has become increasingly challenging given his limited appearances this campaign.
According to the report, Ter Stegen’s entourage is already exploring potential destinations that would guarantee him regular football in the second half of the season.
However, the player’s camp insists that any formal decision or approach must first come from Barcelona.

Whether it involves a loan spell or a permanent transfer, they believe the initiative should not come from the player’s side but rather from the club itself if they truly wish to part ways.
The Barcelona captain remains under contract until 2028, earning an estimated €17 million gross per season.
His substantial salary makes any move complicated, as few clubs across Europe are financially equipped to meet those demands.
It must be noted that most top clubs already have settled goalkeeping situations, limiting Ter Stegen’s options further.
As things stand, despite his lack of minutes, there remains a possibility for Ter Stegen to reclaim the starting place with Germany.
Notably, Oliver Baumann, currently the national team’s first-choice goalkeeper, is 35 and unlikely to remain a long-term solution.
This leaves the door open for Ter Stegen to make a comeback, even without featuring regularly at club level, before the World Cup begins.
