Bayern Munich have recently put forth an ultimatum to Davies, improving their contract offer. However, the defender is unlikely to extend his contract, meaning we could witness a transfer battle between the two traditional Spanish rivals.

Barcelona explore Davies move

According to SPORT, Barcelona have already asked about the prospect of signing Davies on a free transfer next summer.

It appears the Catalans are looking to leverage Hansi Flick’s relationship with Davies in order to secure the services of the star defender.

Davies and Flick worked together during their time at Bayern Munich, with Flick playing a crucial role in the Canadian international’s rapid rise to prominence.

Davies asking for a hefty salary

However, Barcelona are facing a massive roadblock in their bid to acquire Alphonso Davies next summer.

That is because the Bayern Munich star is holding out for a hefty salary. It appears the defender wants a net salary of €10 million at Barcelona.

Such a figure might not meet the criteria at Barcelona, who have been lately restructuring their wage structure and avoiding paying a hefty salary to any individual.

In addition, Davies is also demanding a huge salary bonus, knowing he will join his future club on a free transfer. Barcelona, though, are unlikely to be in a position to meet either of these demands.

As such, the Catalans are exploring other options in the market as well, including Alvaro Carreras and Hugo Bueno.
