Throughout the better part of last two months, Julian Alvarez has made it clear that he only wants to join Barcelona.

The Argentine international has been identified as the ideal man to spearhead Barcelona’s frontline this season but the club have been unable to convince Atleti to offload their star man.

Although Atleti are feeling the heat in recent days, it appears a move to Barcelona could be difficult as the club do not want to sell their star player to a direct rival.

According to Diario SPORT, Alvarez is now slowly trying to settle with the fact that he may not join Barcelona this summer.

Perhaps more shockingly, the Argentine is now beginning to consider the possibility of joining Arsenal, who had been waiting in the background all this while.

The report points out that Arsenal are being considered as an emergency option for Alvarez, a tool to use in his bid to leave Metropolitano if the Barcelona move does not work out.

It appears the Argentine is keen on avoiding the tension in the dressing room at Atleti, with many cross with his announcement to leave the club and the desire to join Barcelona.

Barcelona are still in the race to sign Alvarez but things are not looking good for the Catalans.

As mentioned earlier, Atletico Madrid are not thrilled with the way Barcelona have handled the situation and the club are not keen on selling Alvarez to a direct rival.

The Catalans have already had their opening proposal of €100 million rejected by Atletico Madrid.

It remains to be seen if the Blaugrana can make a breakthrough in the coming week. But Arsenal will be keeping a close tab, knowing they may have an outside chance of landing one of the most-sought after prospects in the transfer market.

Interestingly, Barcelona have been linked with a move for Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres, who could be one of the affected parties if Alvarez joins the Gunners.
