The financial problems FC Barcelona have faced in the last few years are quite clear for everyone to see, and thus, it has been rather a surprise how quickly the Catalans have moved in the market to make some notable new signings. They have already completed the addition of Anthony Gordon and are also close to landing Karim Adeyemi.
Going forward, the Blaugranes are also working to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid for a significant sum, which can easily go beyond the €100 million mark, and Joao Cancelo from Al-Hilal for around €10 million.
While all of these signings are express requests from Hansi Flick, and will help the team compete for the Champions League title next season, MARCA reports that there is another factor contributing to the urgency shown by Barcelona to strengthen its team this summer.
The report claims that the club understands that it will not remain with its recently obtained 1:1 status and are thus looking to strengthen themselves as much as possible while this status lasts. It was also because of this that they requested an advance payment of €210 million for television rights for the coming years.
The Catalans believe they will no longer be operating under the 1:1 status next year, mainly because Spotify Camp Nou is going to be closed for six months during the 2027-28 season, and playing at Montjuic would mean a significant decrease in revenue. This loss of income can once again take them away from the 1:1 status.
Of the €210 million request, Barcelona are looking to spend half of this amount, €105 million this summer, and the other half in the next winter transfer window. Thus, they are looking to spend the money in two transfer windows that they would normally have spread over four transfer windows, mainly to take full advantage of their presumably temporary return to the 1:1 status.
